MONTICELLO, Ark. -  The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevil baseball continues its season action this week with a four-game road stint. The week starts on Tuesday, March 3, with a 2:00 p.m. meeting with the Choctaws of Mississippi College. The boys in green and white will then head to Russellville, Arkansas, to continue Great American Conference action against the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech. A solo contest will be held on Friday at 6:00 p.m., with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.

LAST MEETING
Mississippi College - The Boll Weevils fell in the last meeting with the Choctaws, 4-8. Mississippi College started the game with a pair of runs in the top of the second, courtesy of a home run and a passed ball. The Boll Weevils tied it at 2 in the third as Camden Tanner doubled to left to bring in Chaz Poppy, and a bases-loaded hit by pitch forced Justin Santoyo home. Two more runs in the fourth and a wild pitch in the sixth would help the Choctaws take the lead by three. Play was suspended heading into the bottom of the inning, for an hour and a half, as inclement weather crossed into the Monticello area. Mississippi College was quick to resume scoring coming out of the delay, etching three runs to the board between the seventh and eighth innings, via a home run, an error, and a balk. The Weevils cut the deficit to just four in the bottom half of the eighth off an Elijah Nichols home run to left field, and a Kirk Woolf double to the right field line that plated Aidan Garrett. Arkansas-Monticello could not produce any runs in the ninth, falling to the Choctaws, 8-4.

Arkansas Tech - UAM fell earlier this season to the Wonder Boys in the annual non-conference midweek game. Arkansas-Monticello was first on the board in the home opener as Elijah Olaybal homered to left center to kick things off. Arkansas Tech University scored its first run of the game in the top of the third off a groundout run. The Weevils' final run of the game came off the bat of Gabe Kuttenkuler as he homered to left field. The Wonder Boys would put four more runs on the board, one in the seventh and three in the eighth, to win the game 5-2.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Mississippi College - In the record book, Arkansas-Monticello holds a 21-16 record over the Choctaws. This record dates back to the 1989 season in the first set of doubleheaders UAM ever played against Mississippi College, a 6-4 win and a 0-16 loss. At home in the Cello, the Weevils are 7-7, and 13-9 on the road. Through 37 games played, the men in green and white have put 247 wins on the board, to average 6.68 runs per game.

Arkansas Tech -  The Wonder Boys lead Arkansas-Monticello in the all-time series, 75-49, dating back to the first meeting on May 1, 1976, an 11-9 win for the Weevils. The overall conference record stands at 38-66 with ATU leading. The Boll Weevils have a 23-38 record in Monticello, an 18-35 record in Russellville, and an 8-2 record at neutral locations. The largest margin of Victory for the men in green and white came via a 16-4 9-inning decider in April of 2019. To this date, the Weevils and Wonder Boys have met 124 times, with UAM running in 651 runs, averaging 5.25 runs a game.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WEEVILS
UAM secured the series win over the Reddies of Henderson State on Saturday, February 28. In game one on Friday, the Weevils fell 4-6. Before completing a doubleheader sweep over the Reddies on Saturday, 10-8, 8-0. Game three of the series saw true freshman pitcher Hunter Heath secure a complete-game shutout, going 7 innings and allowing just 3 hits. The League City, Texas native became the first Weevil this season to do so.
