ALVA, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team traveled to compete against out of state conference member, Northwestern Oklahoma State University Saturday evening. The Blossoms came out with a 75-52 loss to the Lady Rangers.
Azaria Hulbert was the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (6-14, 2-12 GAC) with 13 points, going 4-7 on total field goals, 2-4 on threes, and 3-5 on shots from the free throw line. Hulbert also contributed two rebounds, a steal and an assist in her 19 minutes.
Northwestern Oklahoma (19-3, 11-3 GAC) was led by
Faith Simpson with 30 points.
Taylor East opened the game for Monticello with a layup on their first possession of the game. The two teams battled out for most of the quarter but two free-throws by NWOSU's leading scorer shifted the momentum and the Lady Rangers took the lead for the remainder of the quarter, seeing the Blossoms right on their heels. The score going into the second had Arkansas-Monticello trailing Northwestern Oklahoma 9-19.
Quarter two once again wen to the Lady Rangers as they would outscore Monticello, 17-9. The teams would head to the locker room at half time with Arkansas-Monticello trailing Northwestern Oklahoma state, 36-18.
The third quarter was the highest scoring period for UAM with the Blossoms posting 18 points throughout its entirety. UAM trailed NWOSU 58-36 heading into the final quarter of the game.
Northwestern Oklahoma State saw a 17 point quarter for the second time of the game while UAM was able to post 16. The game came to an end with the Rangers on top, 75-52.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 15 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to Steelman Fieldhouse on Thursday, Feb. 8th when they host out-of-state conference member Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
