Blossoms Leave Southern Nazarene with a 63-51 Loss

BETHANY, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team traveled to face off against conference member Southern Nazarene University on Thursday evening. The Blossoms came out with a 63-51 loss to the Crimson Storm. 

Haleigh Crew was the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (8-17, 4-15 GAC) with 14 points, going 4-12 on total field goals and 6-6 on shots from the free throw line. Crews also contributed seven defensive rebounds, two assists and a steal in her 34 minutes. 

Bailey Harris followed close behind, posting 12 points of her own on the game. She hit 5-14 field goals and 2-4 free throw, while giving the Blossoms a block, rebound, steal, and assist.

Azaria Hulbert was the final Blossoms in double digits, scoring 11 points against the Crimson Storm. Hulbert hit 4-8 field goals, 2-5 three pointers, and 1-2 shots from the line with one rebound and one assist.
 
Southern Nazarene (24-1, 18-1 GAC) was led by Emily Monaghan with 25 points.

The Blossoms saw control for majority of the first quarter, taking the lead to open the game and eventually closing out the first ten minutes with a five point lead over the Crimson Storm. Haleigh Crews gave UAM their first six points of the game, followed by multiple Blossoms scoring to contribute to the 17 points scored. Southern Nazarene witched the gear in the second period, reclaiming the lead after a brief fight for it, eventually closing out the half with a five point advantage of their own.

The second half saw the home team once again outscore UAM in the third, posting 19 points compared to UAM''s 12. Although Monticello was able to match SNU's efforts in the final quarter, with each teams scoring 13, the advancement was not enough, as the contest would come to a close with the Crimson Storm on top, 63-51.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 10 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to action on Saturday, Feb. 24th when they travel to play against out-of-state conference member Oklahoma Baptist University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 1:00 p.m.
