Blossoms Leave Shawnee After Heartbreaking 61-60 Loss to Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team traveled to face-off against conference member Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday afternoon. The Blossoms came out with a 61-60 loss to the Bison.

Haleigh Crews was the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (8-18, 4-16 GAC) with 13 points, going 4-10 on total field goals, 1-4 on threes, and 4-4 on shots from the free throw line. Crews also contributed four assists and a block in her 35 minutes. 

Alyssia Thorne followed close behind, posting 12 points of her own. She hit 4-7 field goals and 1-2 three pointers while being the defensive heart of the team with eight rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals.

Bailey Harris and Azaria Hubert were the final Blossoms in double digits, scoring 11 and 10 points against the Bison, respectfully. Harris hit 4-14 field goals and 1-4 three pointers with five rebounds, three assists. Hulbert hit 3-3 field goals, 2-2 on field goals, 2-2 from the line with two rebounds and two steals.
 
Oklahoma Baptist (11-15, 8-12 GAC) was led by Jaedyn Getman with 18 points.

The first quarter proved to be tough for the Blossoms starting from the behind the Bison's 9-15. Alyssia Thorne opened the game for Monticello with a 3-pointer on their first scoring possession. The quarter was a battle in its entirety, seeing only an eight point difference in its height.

Quarter two proved to be a flip in the momentum, with the Blossoms scoring 16 points in comparison to the Bison's 14. The teams would head to the locker room at half-time with Oklahoma Baptist leading, 25-29.

The third quarter remained close as both teams continued to fight back and forth for control over the game. UAM trailed OBU 44-46 heading into the final quarter of the game.

The final quarter was again a battle throughout its entirety. After an intense final period, the game came to an end with the Bison on top, 61-60.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 20 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to action on Thursday, Feb. 29th when they travel to play against conference member Harding University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
