BOLIVAR, Mo. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday in Bolivar, Missouri, sweeping Lane College before falling to Southwest Baptist University in three sets.
UAM vs. Lane College
FIRST SET (25-20 UAM, UAM leads 1-0)
Arkansas-Monticello jumped out to a 6-1 lead before Lane battled back to tie the set at 8-8. The Weevils regained control midway through the frame, with back-to-back service aces from Ella Cline helping UAM build a 15-10 advantage. Lane made a late push, but the Weevils held on to take the opening set, 25-20.
SECOND SET (25-15 UAM, UAM leads 2-0)
The teams traded points early before Arkansas-Monticello began to pull away. A 5-0 run behind the serve of Ella Cline pushed the Weevils ahead 17-8. UAM maintained control from there and closed out the second set, 25-15.
THIRD SET (25-20 UAM, UAM wins 3-0)
Arkansas-Monticello controlled the early portion of the third set and built a 16-9 advantage. Lane battled back late to pull within three at 23-20, but UAM answered with the final two points. Sophia Grubbs sealed the sweep with a kill, giving the Weevils a 25-20 set victory.
UAM vs. Southwest Baptist
FIRST SET (25-20 SBU, SBU leads 1-0)
Southwest Baptist opened with an early advantage before Arkansas-Monticello fought back to tie the set at 9-9. The Bearcats regained control midway through the frame and built a 15-11 lead. UAM stayed within striking distance, but SBU held on to claim the opening set, 25-20.
SECOND SET (25-19 SBU, SBU leads 2-0)
Arkansas-Monticello opened the second set with a 5-2 advantage, highlighted by service aces from Shayla Lacamiento and Maelie Cooke. Southwest Baptist responded and eventually used a 6-0 run to build a 15-9 lead. The Weevils cut the deficit to four late, but the Bearcats finished off the set, 25-19.
THIRD SET (25-14 SBU, SBU wins 3-0)
The third set remained close early, with the teams battling through a 6-6 tie. Southwest Baptist then pulled away with a 7-1 run to take a 13-7 advantage. The Bearcats controlled the remainder of the set, winning 25-14 to complete the sweep.

The Weevils will return to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in Steelman Field House. The game will mark the start of Great American Conference play as they host the Bisons of Harding University. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
