TOPEKA, Kan. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team closed out play at the Ichabod Classic on Saturday afternoon against the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Weevils fell in three sets, 25-22, 25-16, 25-17, to conclude the weekend.
FIRST SET (25-22 UMSL, UMSL leads 1-0)
Arkansas-Monticello started strong in the opening set, building an early 9-4 advantage behind kills from Kylie Miller and Jalen Scroggins. Missouri-St. Louis worked its way back into the frame and eventually tied the set at 14-14. The teams continued to trade points through a 20-20 tie before UMSL closed the set on a 5-2 run to win, 25-22.
SECOND SET (25-16 UMSL, UMSL leads 2-0)
The second set remained close early before Missouri-St. Louis used a 6-0 run to take a 9-3 advantage. The Tritons continued to control the middle of the frame, stretching the lead to 20-10. Arkansas-Monticello answered with a late push, highlighted by a service ace from Kyonias Chambers, but UMSL held on to take the set, 25-16.
THIRD SET (25-17 UMSL, UMSL wins 3-0)
The teams traded points early in the third set before Missouri-St. Louis built a 12-7 advantage. UAM responded with three straight points, including back-to-back service aces from Isabella Garcia, to cut the deficit to 12-10. UMSL answered with a run of its own and maintained control through the closing stretch, taking the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
