MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Softball team is gearing up for a weekend series in the Sooner State, heading to Weatherford, Oklahoma, for a meeting with the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The three-game series will commence with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 12:00 p.m., followed by a solo contest on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
LAST MEETING
The Blossoms swept the Bulldogs last season by final scores of 4-1, 8-7, 7-6.
Dacia Sexton scored in the first to put the Blossoms up early. The Bulldogs added their only run to the board in the second off a home run to left center. The remaining three runs of the game for UAM came in the third as Sexton would double to left center to bring in
Lauren Spoon. Sexton rounded home as
Aubree Goodnight singled up the middle, and Goodnight scored following a SWOSU error in right field. With no other runs in the remaining four innings, the Blossoms took game one, 4-1. Arkansas-Monticello was once again the first to plate a runner, adding two runs in the first, as
Aubree Goodnight reached base thanks to a single from
Sophie Wood.
Jessica Smith would single to center to bring in
Maddie Pfleging from second base. SWOSU responded yet again in the second, this time taking the lead, 4-2. A UAM error and a double to right center brought in two runs, with a home run bringing in the remainder. The Blossoms pulled ahead in the fifth, scoring four runs of their own as
Kammie Walker started the scoring via a
Kyann Woods bases-loaded single to left.
Lexi Livezey doubled to left center, bringing home
Vyanna Quezada and
Jade Keaton, and Livezey crossed via a SWOSU error. The Bulldogs attempted a rally in the sixth, bringing the score within one as one run crossed home off a single up the middle, and a single to left field brought in the last two. Three more outs from the Blossoms sealed the game, 8-7 in UAM's favor. The final game of the series saw the Blossoms take down SWOSU 7-6 on nine runs.
Kayla Olthouse was the winning pitcher of games one and three, and recorded the save in game two, while
Makenzie Martin was the winning pitcher of game three.
