HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team (0-2) traveled to Hot Springs, Arkansas, on Friday to open the 2026 season. The Weevils played the first two of a four-game series against the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri State (4-2).
What was originally scheduled as the fourth through seventh games of the regular season became the season-opening series after both the Dugan Invitational and the midweek with Christian Brothers were canceled due to snow and icy weather throughout the state.
UAM came out of opening day with two losses to NMSU, falling in game one 15-1, followed by an 18-8 loss in game two of the doubleheader.

Arkasas-Monticello struggled to put runs on the board throughout the season opener, falling to a 14-0 deficit throughout the second to fourth innings. Newcomer
Elijah Olaybal drove a ball over the wall in the bottom of the fourth to give the Boll Weevils a single showcase of offense.
The game would conclude after seven innings with a 15-1 loss.

Inning 2 saw a combined seven runs scored between the teams, with the Bearcats crossing the plate four times, and UAM three. Tanner and Lizzaraga each saw an RBI on balls in the infield, followed by a double from
Eli Marvin to score a fourth run for Arkansas-Monticello.
A seven-run third inning for Northwest Missouri increased the Bearcat lead to 17-4. A solo shot from
Drew Floyd in the fourth and a three-run home run from
Darcy Barry in the fifth decreased the lead to 17-8.
Northwest Missouri scored a final run in the seventh on a wild pitch, seeing the game conclude with an 18-8 loss for UAM.
