Weevils Dominate in Saturday Doubleheader to Complete Series Sweep Over Bison

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team was back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader to close out the conference series with Oklahoma Baptist. For the fourth and fifth time this season, the Boll Weevils saw themselves enter double-digit runs to secure back-to-back wins over the Bison, 13-9 and 16-7.

Scoring Recap:
Oklahoma Baptist struck first in the second game of the series, scoring on a single to left field in the top of the first.

The Weevils responded in the bottom of the inning as Camden Tanner ran in off a groundout to the shortstop. Eli Marvin brought in Daniel Lizarraga to take a 2-1 lead.

Arkansas-Monticello plated another three runs in the second, making it a 4-2 ball game. Beau Kuttenkuler singled down the left field line to advance Jackson Riedling home, before scoring a run himself with the help of Tanner. Drew Floyd touched home as the fifth run of the game on a sacrifice fly to left field from Lizarraga.

OBU tied the game in the third with a three-run home run to center field. They saw themselves leading after a double to right field and a single brought in three runs, making it an 8-5 game.

Marvin doubled down the left line in the third to score Gabe Kuttenkuler, and Darcy Barry homered to center field in the fifth, driving in two runs to tie the game at 8-8.

The Bison saw its last run of the game in the sixth off a solo home run to right center.

UAM took the lead once more and never looked back, starting in the bottom of the sixth. Marvin sent a two-run bomb over the center field wall to drive in G. Kuttenkuler in the sixth, 10-9.

Elijah Olaybal sent a two-run homer as well over the center field wall in the eighth, scoring Lizarraga. The 13th and final run crossed in the eighth as Darcy Barry sacrificed to left field to bring in G. Kuttenkuler.

Pitching Performances:
- Tyler Bribiescas started on the mound for UAM, allowing eight runs on seven hits, while striking out two batters in his 2.2 innings pitched.
- Bryce McGuire pitched for the win in the game, allowing one run on four hits, striking out one batter in his 3.1 innings pitched.
- Nathan McManus pitched the remaining 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two batters.

Offensive Showcase:
- Eli Marvin - 5-for-5 with a home run, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a walk
- Darcy Barry - 1-for-3 with a home run, 3 RBI, 1 SB, and 1 run scored

Scoring Recap:
The Bison were first on the board in game three off a solo shot to right center in the top of the first.

Jackson Rielding hit a two-run shot to right center in the bottom of the second to plate Darcy Barry, adding UAM's first run on the board. Camden Tanner kept the inning alive with a single to left field, scoring Sebastian Hernandez. Tanner himself crossed home on a Daniel Lizarraga double to center field. The Weevils exited the second up 3-1.

OBU added three more runs between the third and fourth innings to make it 5-4. A sacrifice fly to center field, and a two-run home run to center field plated three in the third, with a double to center in the fourth scored a solo run.

Drew Floyd scored in the fourth for UAM off a sacrifice fly from Elijah Olaybal, tying the game in the fifth.

The Weevils added the commanding runs in the fifth, adding nine total. Eli Marvin started the run fest with a solo shot over the right-center wall. Floyd doubled down the left field line, plating Riedling, which was followed by a three-run home run off the bat of Tanner, scoring Floyd and Hernandez in the process, making it 10-5 UAM. Having batted around the order, Marvin singled to center field to drive in Lizarraga. A bases-loaded hit by pitch to Barry walked in Olaybal, and a double to right from Riedling drove home Marvin and G. Kuttenkuler. The Weevils fell one run shy of run-ruling the Bison in five innings.

Oklahoma Baptist added two runs in the sixth off a home run and a double to left field.

The final two runs of the game for the Weevils came in the bottom of the sixth. Lizarraga came home on a groundout, and Eli Marvin recorded his second home run of the game, making it 16-7.

UAM held the Bison off the board in the seventh to close the game.

Pitching Performances:
- Hunter Heath began the game on the mound for the Weevils, allowing five runs on seven hits, while striking out four batters in his 4.0 innings on the mound.
- Cody Graf secured the win for the Weevils, allowing two runs on three hits with one strikeout in his 2.0 innings on the mound.
- Jake Skelly got the call to close the game for the Weevils in the seventh. He allowed just one hit in the four batters he faced.

- The four stolen bases are the most for the Weevils this season.
- Eli Marvin became the first Weevil of the season to hit a home run in all three games of a GAC series.
