MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team will commence Great American Conference play on Friday and Saturday, February 20 and 21 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The Blossoms are set to take on the No. 24 Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University at Bison Softball Park.
LAST MEETING | ALL-TIME SERIES
No. 24 Oklahoma Baptist - Arkansas-Monticello fell in the last series meeting 0-3. Going 0-5, 5-10, 1-11 in February of 2025. The Bison were the only team to score in game one, outscoring UAM 5-0. OBU saw a two-run home run in the fourth, followed by an RBI single and an error to bring in two more in the sixth. The final run of the game came on a double in the seventh. The Bison offense once again struck first in game two, scoring nine runs throughout the first four innings. UAM found its first run of the afternoon in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI from
Jessica Smith. Maddie Pflegging added two more runs to the board on a home run to left field, decreasing the deficit to 9-3. An RBI double in the top of the sixth pushed the Bison back up to a 10-3 lead. Pfleging launched her second home run of the ball game in the bottom half of the inning, making it a 10-5 game. The game would come to a close as no more runs were scored in the seventh. The Bison were the first on the board in the top of the first off a home run that scored two in game three.
Dacia Sexton responded, to kick off the bottom of the first, putting the Blossoms on the board via her first home run of the year. Sexton's home run would be the only point that UAM would put on the scoreboard. OBU would add 10 more runs, adding digits in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. In the third, the Bison would homer two times, scoring four runs total, before a triple to right field added another run, and a ground out plated the sixth run of the inning. The final two runs would be scored by a double in both the fourth and fifth innings, each plating a run. Allowing the Bison to take game three, 11-1, in a run-rule game.
ALL-TIME SERIES
No. 24 Oklahoma Baptist - The Bison holds the all-time win record at 18-11, with the record dating back to February 2016. The first win came in the second half of a doubleheader in February of 2016 in Shawnee. The Blossoms are 7-8 at home and 4-10 away. The largest margin for the ladies in green and white came in April of 2021 in a 14-2 win over the Bison. Through 29 games played the Blossoms have scored 96 runs, averaging 3.31 runs per game.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLOSSOMS
Arkansas-Monticello went 2-2 this past weekend at the D2 Cherokee Nation Softball Festival. On Friday, February 13 the Blossoms bested the Riverhawks of Northeastern State 7-6 (9 innings), before falling to No.7 Central Oklahoma 7-2. In the second twin bill on Saturday, February 14 the Blossoms fell to No. 17 Missouri Southern 12-3 (5 innings), before winning over Fort Hays 6-5.
