DURANT, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team wrapped up its Oklahoma road trip Friday afternoon with a Great American Conference matchup against Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The Boll Weevils fell to the Savage Storm in three sets, 25-14, 25-14, 25-19.
FIRST SET (25-14 SEO, SEO leads 1-0)
Arkansas-Monticello opened the match with a kill from Jalen Scroggins to take an early 1-0 lead. Southeastern Oklahoma State answered quickly, moving ahead 3-1 before a Scroggins block helped the Weevils pull within one at 3-2. The Savage Storm began to create separation from there, building an 11-3 advantage. UAM continued to battle as Isabella Garcia and Sophia Grubbs recorded kills, but Southeastern extended its lead to 15-7. Grubbs added another kill to bring the score to 15-8 before the Savage Storm responded with three straight points to make it 18-8. Scroggins, Kylie Miller and Ella Cline each added kills as the Weevils worked to cut into the deficit, bringing UAM within eight at 19-11. Garcia and Grubbs followed with kills late in the set, but Southeastern reached set point at 24-13. Cline fought off the first set point with a kill before the Savage Storm closed out the opening set, 25-14.
SECOND SET (25-22 SEO, SEO leads 2-0)
Southeastern Oklahoma State opened the second set with a 7-0 run before Sophia Grubbs put Arkansas-Monticello on the board with a kill. The Savage Storm pushed their advantage to 10-2, but UAM continued to battle as Ja'Miah Thomas recorded a kill and a Southeastern attack error brought the score to 11-4. Grubbs added back-to-back kills to help the Weevils cut into the deficit before an Ella Cline service ace made it 14-7. Southeastern responded by extending its lead to 17-8, but Isabella Garcia sparked the UAM offense with three kills over the next several points to bring the score to 19-11. Ella Cline followed with a pair of kills as the Weevils continued to fight late in the set. Southeastern eventually reached set point at 24-13 before a bad set gave UAM another point. The Savage Storm responded on the following play to close out the second set, 25-14.
THIRD SET (25-19 SEO, SEO wins 3-0)
UAM came out strong in the third set, taking an early 4-1 lead behind a kill from Sophia Grubbs, a Kylie Miller block and a pair of Southeastern Oklahoma State attack errors. The Savage Storm worked their way back, but kills from Isabella Garcia and Miller, followed by an Ella Cline service ace, helped UAM maintain a 7-5 advantage. Garcia and Grubbs continued the attack with kills to push the Weevils ahead 9-6. Southeastern responded to tie the set at 10-10, but Jalen Scroggins answered with a kill to put UAM back in front, 11-10. The Savage Storm then used a 5-0 run to take a 15-11 advantage. UAM continued to battle as back-to-back kills from Cline brought the Weevils within two at 16-14. Southeastern pushed its lead to 19-14 before Garcia recorded another kill and Hannah Hubbard followed with a service ace to make it 19-16. Garcia added another kill to bring UAM within three at 20-17, but the Savage Storm pulled away late to reach set point at 24-18. Scroggins fought off the first match point with a kill before Southeastern closed out the third set, 25-19, to take the match in three sets.
