EDMOND, Okla. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's golf program saw senior
Shehna Akbary wrap up her collegiate golf career on Wednesday afternoon, completing her final round at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Central Region Tournament at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Due to weather in the area, the three-day tournament was changed to 36 holes on Monday, no golf on Tuesday, and a final round on Wednesday.
Akbary opened the tournament with a 1-over-par 71 in round one, carding two birdies with a 1-over 36 on the front nine, followed by an even-par 35 on the back.
She followed up her opening round with a 77 (+7) in round two, struggling on the front nine for a 42, but finding a grove on the back with two bogeys and two birdies to shoot an even 35. Despite the score, she remained in the top half of the field heading into the final day.
In Wednesday's final round, Akbary shot a 1-over 71. With two birdies and a bogey, she made the turn one under heading into the final stretch. The round was highlighted by steady play on the back nine including pars on her final four holes. She concluded the tournament with a 54-hole total of 219 (+9) to tie for 30th place, capping off a strong senior campaign.
The top four teams advancing to the national championship from the Central Region are:
- Central Missouri
- Henderson State
- Rogers State
- Harding
The two individuals not on advancing teams who qualified for the national championship are:
- Romane Lacoste (Northwestern Oklahoma State)
- Ellie Behring (Winona State)
