Blossoms Basketball Upset Reddies 70-53

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team traveled to Arkadelphia to compete against Henderson State University on Saturday afternoon. The Blossoms came out with a 70-53 victory over the Reddies, claiming their first win inside the Duke Wells Center since February of 2020.

Alindsey Long led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (10-14, 5-13 GAC) with 17 points on the evening. Long was 7-10 on total field goals, going 2-3 from distance. She was also 1-1 from the free throw line while contributing two rebounds, one block, and a steal in her 26 minutes on the court.

Kennedee Shelton stepped up for the Blossoms as well, posting 12 points of her own in the contest. Shelton was 4-6 on shot with four free throws made. She also led in rebounds with six total, grabbed two steals, and dished out an assist.

Bailey Harris and Ella Mask were the final two in double-digits for UAM, scoring 11 and 10, respectively. Harris was 5-13 with a three on the evening, while grabbing three rebounds, four assists, and a block. Mask was perfect on the day, going 3-3 on field goals, 1-1 on threes, and 3-3 on free throws. She grabbed four steals and two rebounds.

Henderson State Univeristy (9-15, 7-11 GAC) was led by Natalie Cardenas with 13 points.

The opening quarter of the game was won by the home team, outscoring the Blossoms 22-13. UAM's offense flipped the script in the second 10-minute period, putting up 19 points while only allowing Henderson to post 8. After the comeback, the teams were sent to the locker rooms at the half with UAM leading 32-30.

The teams showed an even display of ability in the third quarter as both teams scored 14 each. The Blossoms dominated in the final period of the game, putting up a game-high 24 points while keeping HSU in single digits at nine. The game would conclude with a 70-53 win for Arkansas-Monticello.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 14 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms will take the court again on Thursday, February 20 as they welcome Southwestern Oklahoma State Univeristy to Monticello, with tip off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
