ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils traveled to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Saturday afternoon for a meeting with the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist University. The Boll Weevils came out of the afternoon contest with a 68-55 loss.
Josh Smith led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (4-6, 0-4 GAC), posting 17 points in the game. Smith hit 7-10 total field goals on the day and 3-4 free throws. He also contributed seven total rebounds and one assist in his 40 minutes.
Isaac Jackson was the second Boll Weevil in the double-digits, scoring 15 points on the evening. Jackson hit 6-15 field goals, one three-pointer, and 2-4 from the line, while grabbing seven total rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
Jakob Zenon saw 10 points posted as the final Boll Weevil in the double-digits. Zenon went 3-11 on field goals, 3-11 from beyond the arc, and 1-2 free throws, while grabbing one defensive rebound, two assists, and a steal.
Ouachita Baptist (7-2, 3-0 GAC) was led by
Christian Parks with 16 points.
Arkansas-Monticello opened the first half of the game with an early lead thanks to a jumper from
Josh Smith; however, Ouachita Baptist quickly flipped the script in their favor. UAM clawed its way back with a layup from
Ashton Price to tie the game 12-12 with 12:03 left to play. The Tigers gained control once more, increasing their lead by seven. The teams would head to the locker room at the half with the Weevils trailing, 31-24.
Ouachita Baptist carried its momentum into the second 20-minute period, outscoring the Weevils 37-31. The Tigers increased their lead to a game-high 19 points; however, the Weevils cut the deficit to eight points on three separate occasions. The effort proved not enough as Ouachita Baptist stayed in control for the remainder of the game. Arkansas-Monticello came out of the contest with a 68-55 loss to the Tigers.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 14 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
