MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevil basketball team concludes its pre-conference schedule inside Steelman Field House this week. The Weevils first face Delta State University on Tuesday, November 25, at 6:00 p.m., followed by a post-Thanksgiving matchup against Ecclesia College on Saturday, November 29, at 3:00 p.m.
*Due to current renovations to Steelman Field House there are changes in place for the 2025 season, those changes can be found below.*
LAST MEETING
Delta State University - The Boll Weevils fell in the last meeting with the Statesmen on November 26, 2024, by a final score of 63-79. The first half opened with a jumper from
Noah Thomas to put the Boll Weevils ahead. The teams would see back-and-forth baskets, causing ten different lead changes throughout the twenty minutes. Delta State prevailed in the end, with both teams heading to the locker room with DSU leading 33-31. UAM tied the game up for a brief moment to open the second half, thanks to a jumper in the paint. Delta State reclaimed the lead and would hold it for the remainder of the game, eventually taking a 79-63 win over Monticello.
Alex Brogdon led Arkansas-Monticello with 12 points. Brogdon hit 5-6 field goals and 2-3 shots from the free-throw line while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out an assist.
Seth Grandberry was the second Weevil in double digits, posting 11 on the evening. Grandberry was 4-15 on field goals, 1-5 on threes, and 2-2 from the line. He also contributed two assists and a steal.
Noah Thomas was the final UAM player with ten or more, scoring 10 points. Thomas shot for 4-5 field goals and 1-2 from both beyond the arc and the free-throw line. Thomas also grabbed three defensive rebounds, passed out three assists, and grabbed two steals. Arkansas-Monticello committed 31 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
Ecclesia College - The Boll Weevils put up one of the most dominating performances of the 2024-25 season by besting the Royals, 30-94. The Boll Weevils dominated in the first half, scoring 51 points and only allowing the Royals to score nine. In the opening 20 minutes, UAM was 23-27 on field goals, compared to Ecclesia's 2-20. UAM once again fired on all cylinders in the second 20 minutes, outscoring Ecclesia 43-21. The game would conclude with a monstrous 94-30 win for UAM. Newcomer
Jamir Turner led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (3-2) with a double-double, posting 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Turner was perfect on the day, hitting 9-9 field goals while contributing six assists and two steals. Four Weevils posted 10 points, including
Seth Grandberry,
Noah Thomas,
Devin Davis, and
Alex Brogdon. Grandberry was 4-10 on shots and 2-6 from range with an assist and a rebound. Thomas was also perfect on the afternoon, hitting 4-4 field goals and 3-3 threes while grabbing five rebounds and three steals, and dishing out three assists and a block. Davis was 5-6 on field goals while passing four assists, grabbing two rebounds, and getting one steal. Brogdon continues to be a contributor to the Weevil offense, hitting 5-5 field goals, passing for five assists, and grabbing three defensive rebounds. Arkansas-Monticello committed only eight turnovers in the entirety of the match.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Delta State University - Tip-off will commence the 70th meeting between the two teams, with the Statesmen leading in the win column 48-21. This record dates back to the very first meeting between both teams, a 69-57 win for the Boll Weevils on December 3, 1960. Since then, the Weevils have amassed a 14-18 record at home, 7-29 away in Cleveland, and 5-27 in conference play, when both teams were members of the Gulf South Conference. The largest Margin of victory for the Weevils came on November 22, 2011, via an 88-57 decision. Through 69 games, the Weevils have put 4,870 points on the board, averaging 70.58 points per game.
Ecclesia College - The Weevils are currently undefeated against the Royals, going 9-0 since the first meeting in December of 2006. The 94-30 victory last November is the largest margin of victory for the Weevils, with the smallest being an 85-70 win (inaugural game) in 2006. All nine games against the Royals have taken place inside Steelman Field House, leading to a perfect 9-0 record at home. Through nine games, the men in green and white have tallied 762 points over Ecclesia, averaging 84.67 points per game.
LAST TIME OUT THIS SEASON
The Boll Weevils went 2-0 this past week in front of a packed Steelman Field House. In the annual Billie Ball Game, the Weevils took down Hendrix College by a final score of 87-57 on Tuesday, the 18, before pulling out a close victory over the Buffaloes of Arkansas Baptist, 72-67, on Thursday, the 20th.
ENTRANCE, RESTROOMS AND CONCESSIONS CHANGES
- Due to current renovations to Steelman Field House, the following have been changed:
- The entrance for the 2025 season will be on the west side of Steelman next to the football field. Fans who want to sit behind the teams are encouraged to arrive prior to tip-off, to avoid interfering with the game.
- Portable bathrooms for all fans are on the opposite side of the Steelman next to the baseball field.
- There will be no concessions available for home matches, and outside food and drinks will not be allowed into the gym.
