UAM Leaves Rivalry Match-Up with a Loss to SAU

Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball traveled to Magnolia, Arkansas to take on Great American Conference rival Southern Arkansas University on Monday evening. The Blossoms came out of the contest with an 85-59 loss to the Muleriders.

Bailey Harris led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (9-15, 6-12 GAC) on the night with 19 points. She shot for 8-13 on field goals, going 1-4 on three pointers and 2-5 from the free throw line throughout the match. She had a team leading seven rebounds contributed on top of an assist and a steal.

Cyarah Kensmil was the second Blossom with 10 or more points, putting up 10 of her own on the night. She was 4-6 on field goals and 2-2 from the line with a defensive rebound and a steal.

Southern Arkansas (11-13, 7-11 GAC) was led by Mychala Linzy and Brooklin Brown with an 11 point performance each.

The opening 10 minutes proved to go the Muleriders way, outscoring UAM by 16 points before the buzzer. Southern Arkansas was the first team to score, finding an 8-0 run to start the match. A layup from Alindsey Long would get the Blossoms on the board. As the quarter continues, the Blossoms would fight back, but were unable to stop the SAU dominance. Arkansas-Monticello would finish out the quarter going 5-12 on field goals, 1-3 on threes, and 2-2 on free throws. The two teams would head into the second quarter with Southern Arkansas on top 29-13.

The second quarter would once again go the Muleriders' way as they outscored the Blossoms 19 points to 15 throughout the second 10 minute period. UAM shot for 40% of their field goals throughout the second ten minutes, while Southern Arkansas would shoot for 47.37% in their performance. The teams would head to the locker rooms with SAU leading, 48-28.

Quarter three was won by the home team again, with SAU outscoring UAM 17 points to 11. The quarter would come to a close with Southern Arkansas leading the game, 65-39.

The final quarter of the game would come to a close with both teams scoring 20 points. Although the final 10 minutes was UAM's highest scoring period of the day, the Blossoms were unable to chip away the SAU lead. The match would come to a close with a Blossom loss, falling to the Muleriders, 85-59.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 28 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to Steelman Field House on Thursday, February 16 when they host Great American Conference member Oklahoma Baptist University. The match is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
