Sturaro Ties for Second as Women's Golf Take 6th in Battle for the Belt

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello women's golf team closed out the Battle for the Belt tournament in Hot Springs, Arkansas at the Hot Springs Country Club on Monday afternoon. The Blossoms closed out the tournament in 6th place overall with a combined score of 941 over three rounds. 

Chiara Sturaro led the Blossoms golf program throughout the entirety of the tournament, improving her score on every round. Sturaro began her Battle of the Belt showing with an opening round 74, followed by an even par 72 in round two. In round three, she briefly held the lead, shooting a two-under 70 to close out the tournament. She finished the tournament tied for second with UT-Tyler's Martha Laremark, both trailing Henderson State's Allie Bianchi by a stroke as the event came to a close.

Mekdes Rozas finished her tournament run tied for 14th place individually. She shot a tournament best 75 in the opening round on Sunday, followed by a 77 in the second round of the day. She closed out her Battle for the Belt performance with a 79 in round three on Monday.

Robbi Jo Freeman showcased a career performance for the Blossoms on the weekend. Freeman opened the tournament with a first round 82, followed by an 83 in round two to close out her Sunday. Round three was her best round of the tournament, shooting an 80 to lock her in at 33rd place.

Natalie Van Dort opened up the Battle for the Belt with a first round 83. She saw similar results throughout her final two rounds, shooting an 86 to close out Sunday, and an 84 in her final round. She finished the event in 38th place.

Ximena Paz is the final Blossom to compete for the team in the tournament, carding a 93 in her opening round. Paz improved eleven strokes in round two, finishing with a 10-over 82. In Monday's round three, she shot an 85 to close out the tournament in 39th place.

Anna Beth Reynolds competed individually for UAM in the tournament, finishing the final day of the event in 43rd place. She closed out the first two rounds of the Battle for the Belt with a 98 in round one, followed by a 111 in round two. She finished her tournament with a 108 in her final round to put her in 43rd individually.
