MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Department of Athletics has announced Baseball Assistant Coach Mark Jelks is being promoted to the position of Associate Head Coach. The promotion is a reflection of Coach Jelks' continued investment in the Weevils baseball program and his consistent support of student-athletes on and off the field.
"Coach Jelks has made an immeasurable impact on the continual success of the UAM baseball program since joining the staff under Coach Harvey and this promotion is a way for us to thank and recognize Mark for his continued work in taking the Weevil baseball program – and UAM Athletics – to new standards," stated Director of Athletics Padraic McMeel. "Chancellor Dr. Peggy Doss understands the hard work and time Coach Jelks has put forth for UAM and it was important to her that we recognize him with this promotion."
Jelks was hired as the University of Arkansas at Monticello's assistant baseball coach in August of 2014. He came to UAM after a two-year stint as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Great American Conference member Arkansas Tech University. During his time with UAM, Jelks has helped the Weevils win four consecutive GAC championship titles in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, as well as three NCAA regional selections in 2016, 2017 and 2019. Coach Jelks has been promoted to the Associate Head Baseball Coach under Head Baseball Coach John Harvey's tutelage.
"Mark's promotion to Associate Head Coach is well-deserved," said Coach Harvey. "He has been a big part of our success since he arrived in 2015. We are fortunate to have Mark, and his wife Kelli, in Monticello and at UAM."
