Blossoms Have Senior Day Spoiled

The UAM women’s basketball team was unable to mount a comeback to pick up a Senior Day victory, falling 68-51 to Henderson State Saturday.

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team dropped its final regular season contest of the season Saturday. The Blossom were unable to recover after falling behind in the second quarter going down on Senior Day 68-51 against Henderson State.

UAM (1-6, 1-6 GAC) began the contest with a with a rejuvenated energy following the Senior Day ceremony. The Blossoms battled after falling behind early in the first quarter to finish on a 6-2 run and end the quarter up 19-15.

The second quarter was a different story for UAM as the Blossoms struggled to score. The Reddies (7-6, 7-5 GAC) attacked the paint hard throughout the quarter to outscore UAM 21-7 and take a 36-26 lead into the locker room.

The Blossoms endured another tough shooting display in the third quarter, but did not quit fighting. UAM battled hard in the final quarter to cut its deficit back down to 10 with 3:25 to play, but the Blossoms could not string together enough stops down the stretch to complete a comeback. HSU scored the final seven points of the contest as UAM ultimately fell 68-51.

Senior Mackenzie Tillman led the Blossoms in scoring in her final appearance at Steelman Field House posting 17 points to go along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Fellow senior Nina Kizzee also finished in double-digits scoring 12 points in the contest.

Dezirae King tallied 14 points as well as eight rebounds and three steals.

UP NEXT

The Blossoms begin the Great American Conference tournament on the road Monday, March 1, against Harding. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
