MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's and Women's basketball teams both came out with a loss tonight in their first Great American Conference match of the 2021-2022 season. Both teams fall to Henderson State University, 75-39 and 54-50.
UAM Blossoms vs. Henderson State University
In the first quarter, the Henderson State team team kept up with the Blossoms well. UAM would hold their ground throughout the remainder of the quarter, heading into the second with a 16-15 lead.
The second and third quarters were very similar as the two teams would continue their conference battle. The Reddies proved to come out on top of the first half as they would head to the locker room with a 30-21 lead over UAM. Coming into the third quarter, Monticello would continue getting shots up, but couldn't get them to fall as they were 3-16 on the quarter for field goals. The two would head into the fourth quarter with a score of 58-30
The fourth quarter proved to go the Reddies way as they out-scored UAM 17-9. HSU would win the game 75-39 and the Blossoms fall to a 0-1 record in conference play.
Bailey Harris led the charge posting 6 points and 6 rebounds.
Defensively, the Blossoms registered four steals and seven blocks while forcing HSU into 7 turnovers.
UAM Weevils vs. Henderson State University
The first half started out dominant for the Weevils as they would quickly take an 8-0 lead over the Reddies. HSU would fight back for the remainder of the half, but were never able to take the lead away from the UAM Boll Weevil squad. The game would come to a 20-20 tie with 3:00 left on the clock, but would not see another point scored until the half was nearly over. Kyle Moore would make a final free throw in the last minute of the half to give UAM the lead again. The Weevils would head to the locker room with a 21-20 lead over the Henderson State team.
The second half started with Henderson State taking a one point lead over to UAM, but the Weevils would quickly gain back control of the game. The first 10 minutes proved to go UAM's way as they held off the Reddie offense, while putting up points of their own. HSU would regain the lead with 10:31 left on the clock, and through their best efforts, the Weevils were unable to regain the lead. They would eventually lose to the Reddies 54-50, falling to 0-1 in GAC play.
 
Josh Williams led the charge posting 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Defensively, the Weevils registered seven steals and three blocks while forcing HSU into fifteen turnovers.

The UAM Men and Women's basketball teams return to Steelman Field House Saturday, Dec. 4th, for their GAC home openers against Arkansas Tech University. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 PM for the women's game and 4:00 PM for the men's game.
