BOLL WEEVILS TALLY 29-POINT WIN OVER OUACHITA BAPTIST

MONTICELLO – Senior Anthony Lacey had his second straight 20-point effort to go along with junior Jarrell Turner’s third double-double of the season to lead the University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team past Ouachita Baptist 69-40 on Saturday at Steelman Field House.
 
Lacey knocked down 8-of-13 shots from the field and 4-of-4 foul shots to lead all scorers in the win with 20 points. The Detroit, Mich. native also added seven rebounds, two assists and one steal to his final totals. All of this comes after had a season-high of 23 points in Thursday’s loss to Delta State.
 
Turner was 6-of-11 from the field, 1-of-2 from three-point range and 4-of-8 from the foul line to earn 17 points and also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
Sophomore Jeremy LaGarde and senior Gil Verner also reached double-figures in the win with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
 
As a team, UAM (11-9, 6-4 GSC-West) finished the game shooting 55.3 percent from the field (26-of-47), 50 percent from three-point range (8-of-16) and 60 percent from the foul line (9-of-15).
 
The Boll Weevils dominated the rebound battle by a final margin of 35-22 and also picked up their second highest assist total of the season with 18. LaGarde and Verner led all players in the assist category with six each.
 
The Tigers (6-17, 2-8 GSC-West) were held to 32 percent shooting from the field (15-of-47), 22 percent from three-point range (6-of-27) and 50 percent from the foul line (4-of-8). Scott Day and Julian LeDay tied for OBU’s team-high in scoring with eight points each.
 
The Boll Weevils conclude their two-game home stand on Thursday, February 18 against Henderson State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Steelman Field House. UAM beat the Reddies 60-57 earlier this season in Arkadelphia.
