MONTICELLO –
University of
Arkansas at
Monticello
quarterback
Scott Buisson
has been named
to the 2009
Sporting
News Magazine
Division II
Preseason
All-America
team.
Buisson
(Metairie, La.)
earns the
selection after
racking up
several honors
during and after
the 2008 season.
He was named the
GSC Offensive
Player of the
Year and also
was a Top 24
candidate for
the Harlon Hill
Trophy, the
Heisman Trophy
of Division II.
Buisson was also
selected to the
All-GSC First
Team and Don
Hansen’s
Football Gazette
All-Region
Third Team as
well as being
named the
Arkansas
Democrat Gazette
and
Arkansas Sports
360
Offensive Player
of the Year.
During the
season, he was
named the GSC
Offensive Player
of the Week
twice and
D2Football.com
National
Offensive Player
of the Week
once.
The national
honor came three
days after
Buisson became
the first player
at any NCAA
level to throw
for at least 400
yards and rush
for at least 200
yards in a
single game when
he passed for
424 yards with
five touchdowns
and rushed for
216 yards with
two touchdowns
in UAM’s 51-48
win over
Henderson State.
His 640 yards of
total offense
set a UAM and
GSC single game
record and ranks
in the Top 20 in
NCAA history.
That performance
aided to his
selection as the
Sugar Bowl
Amateur Athlete
of the Month for
September.
As a sophomore
in 2008, Buisson
led the GSC in
rushing and
ranked second in
total offense.
He recorded 199
carries for
1,492 rushing
yards, averaging
out to 119.9 per
game. He also
picked up a
team-high 12
rushing
touchdowns.
Through the air,
he completed 209
passes on 356
attempts for
2,700 yards with
25 touchdowns
passes and only
nine
interceptions.
UAM missed out
on
Sporting News’
Preseason Top
25, but was
listed as a team
to watch, being
dubbed a “GSC
Team on the
Rise” with
Buisson’s stats
for support. The
magazine calls
Buisson “one of
the most
versatile
quarterbacks in
the country.”
