BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team has been selected to finish seventh in the Gulf South Conference-West Division, announced Tuesday in the 2010 GSC Baseball Preseason Release.

The Boll Weevils received one fourth place vote, two fifth place votes, three sixth place votes and one seventh place vote for a total of 17 points, which is 10 points ahead of eighth place prediction Christian Brothers and just two points behind sixth place prediction Arkansas Tech.

Southern Arkansas was the unanimous selection to win the GSC-West and also received 10 of 14 total votes to repeat as the overall conference champions. Following SAU in the preseason GSC-West poll are, in order, Delta State, Ouachita Baptist, Harding, Henderson State, Arkansas Tech, UAM and Christian Brothers.

In addition to the preseason coaches’ poll, UAM placed two players on the 2010 Preseason All-GSC West squad.

Seniors Drew Harper and Blaine Ivey both earned preseason honors after both earned All-GSC West 2nd Team honors at the end of the 2009 season. Harper earned honors as an outfielder, while Ivey was an all-conference designated hitter.

The Boll Weevils open the 2010 campaign with 11 of their first 13 contests at home at Weevils Field, starting with a three-game series against LeMoyne-Owen on Saturday, February 6 at noon.
