The
University
of
Arkansas
at
Monticello
baseball
team
has
been
selected
to
finish
seventh
in
the
Gulf
South
Conference-West
Division,
announced
Tuesday
in
the
2010
GSC
Baseball
Preseason
Release.
The
Boll
Weevils
received
one
fourth
place
vote,
two
fifth
place
votes,
three
sixth
place
votes
and
one
seventh
place
vote
for
a
total
of
17
points,
which
is
10
points
ahead
of
eighth
place
prediction
Christian
Brothers
and
just
two
points
behind
sixth
place
prediction
Arkansas
Tech.
Southern
Arkansas
was
the
unanimous
selection
to
win
the
GSC-West
and
also
received
10
of
14
total
votes
to
repeat
as
the
overall
conference
champions.
Following
SAU
in
the
preseason
GSC-West
poll
are,
in
order,
Delta
State,
Ouachita
Baptist,
Harding,
Henderson
State,
Arkansas
Tech,
UAM
and
Christian
Brothers.
In
addition
to
the
preseason
coaches’
poll,
UAM
placed
two
players
on
the
2010
Preseason
All-GSC
West
squad.
Seniors
Drew
Harper
and
Blaine
Ivey
both
earned
preseason
honors
after
both
earned
All-GSC
West
2nd
Team
honors
at
the
end
of
the
2009
season.
Harper
earned
honors
as
an
outfielder,
while
Ivey
was
an
all-conference
designated
hitter.
The
Boll
Weevils
open
the
2010
campaign
with
11
of
their
first
13
contests
at
home
at
Weevils
Field,
starting
with
a
three-game
series
against
LeMoyne-Owen
on
Saturday,
February
6 at
noon.
